Famous Carnatic Composers - VBA


Melattur Veerabhadrayya - (1739-1786) Not known to be actually from Melattur, he was a disciple of "Bharatam" Kaasinaatayya, who composed songs not for kings but only for gods. He composed in Telugu, Sanskrit, Tamil, and Marathi. He is said to have composed the first swarajati, and also to have composed the tillana in musical form. Compositions include adi taala varnams dayajooDavalE in husEni, entavancana in aananda bhairavi, aTa taala varnam aluganela in kannaDa, valapu nanu jEsE in tODi. His disciples include Ramaswamy Dikshitar.
