Foreword by D.Pattammal to the book Karnataka Isai Thuvakka Paadalgal: Our carnatic music is getting weaker day by day. Children like only cine songs. I am not telling that cine songs are inferior. Cine songs without obscene thoughts show up only the supremacy of carnatic music. Children sing these songs well. The only and sole reason is that these (songs) are understandable and are in easy rhythms and tunes. The same children do not listen to or learn carnatic music. There is no meaning in finding fault with them. It is our prime responsibility to make our children like and learn carnatic music. First we should kindle in the children the desire in music. For this, the songs should not be difficult. They should be free from too much of rumbles and intricacies (Gamakas). Apart from this, if we teach difficult songs they will sing them wrong. Because they are not able to sing well, they do not desire. They start hating it as well. This has to be avoided. Now a days, lessons of higher classes are taught in the lower classes by easy ways and means. In a similar way, even in the commencement, these songs can be taught. Children will definitely follow. The old style of spending a year in teaching in Mayamalavagowla the swaras should go. If these songs are taught along with the swaras, children will learn in a week and sing. The details of these songs Dr. Seetha has elaborated. Even 5 year old kids can sing these songs. These songs have been sung in audience by the children three times. One child has sung in the "KaNmaNippoonga" programme in doordarshan. On several (Vidwans) artists of music having said that such songs of this type are needed (and required) and my husband having extended his co-operation, I have ventured to publish this book. The Head of the department of Music. of the Madras University Dr. S. Seetha has graciously given the appreciative note. I offer my grateful thanks to her. I thank the publishers "Dhanyakumar" for having printed this in an orderly manner. Although I am not a (hater or) enemy of the languages, just as Bharatiyaar has said that " In all the languages known to me there is no equivalence to Tamil ", I am immersed in the same thought and in order to give the children songs in the honey-like Tamil, I have brought-out these songs. Children will sing these songs with desire. Knowledge of Shruti, Laya and Raga will step in. Love for Tamil will automatically raise. Opportunities to learn good morals and stories of our mythology will result. I humbly pray God that all children should sing these songs and get all the best. 51,Vijayaraghavachari road, yours, T.Nagar,Madras-17 D.Pattammal.
