Surdas

Surdas - Called Sant Surdas, he was born in 1478 and left home at age 6. He became the poet and singer of the land of Krishna, called Braj. His works are written in the Sur-Saravali, the Sahitya-Lahiri and the Sur-Sagar, and are written in the language of Braj (Braj Basha), which is a dialect of Hindi. Surdas is said to have increased the literary prominence of this language and his beautiful songs on Krishna gained the attention of Emperor Akbar. He died in 1581.
